"In today’s world, communities are looking to businesses to address environmental, social and economic issues. Ranging from safe and sustainable operations to addressing the effects of climate change. Collé Rental & Sales is expected to address these demands, while operating in a constantly changing market that often promotes short-term benefits instead of long-term health. Our priority is the health of our employees and all the partners we engage with on a day-to-day basis. At Collé Rental & Sales, we are confident we will get through these challenging times by continuing to deliver innovations that improve product performance while helping customers switch to more sustainable solutions. We believe sustainability is an emerging need in all levels of our society. While we are proud of our achievements in 2019 and 2020, we realize that continuous improvement is a never-ending process. In 2020, we took another step in our sustainability approach by introducing the 6 pillars of sustainability: joint innovation, efficient use, effective maintenance, re-use machinery, optimizing transport and electric fleet. We look forward to engaging and working closely with our partners. Together, we remain focused on delivering exceptional value through our sustainable offerings."
Frits Collé
‘Green’ construction, transport and working is becoming a prerequisite for doing business. Both the regulatory environment, as well as the social debate fuel this development. Reducing emissions of CO2, NOX and fine particles is a common goal nowadays. Not just because of the harmful emissions, but also due to noise pollution. Reducing emissions is not only relevant now, but also will be going forward. Sustainability is part of Collé’s long-term strategy. This results in a proactive role.
Collé Rental & Sales is your partner for sustainable solutions and ‘green’ advice for machinery and equipment. Since 2013, our message has been ‘BLUE, THE NEW GREEN’. 6 Pillars built on experience, knowledge and action represent the foundation of our messaging.
1. JOINT INNOVATION
As a leading provider in the market innovation is key. Due to solid relationships and intensive cooperation with manufactures, we are working on innovative machines with no or as few emissions as possible.
2. EFFICIENT USE
The right machine with the right specifications for the right job ensures a perfect match. Together with the right knowledge about the machine and its efficient use, a reduction of harmful emissions is achieved.
3. EFFECTIVE MAINTENANCE
All machines are efficiently maintained and inspected by certified mechanics. This guarantees a longer life span of the equipment and safe working conditions for the operators. In addition, efficient maintenance reduces downtime and promotes therefore optimal use, lower emissions as a result.
4. RE-USE MACHINERY
Re-use of parts of depreciated or non-repairable machines is an integral part of the operations of our technical service department. When a machine is technically depreciated or beyond repair, it will be dismantled completely. Parts that no longer can be used, are processed through the waste stream. The parts that can be re-used are added to the re-use stock.
5. OPTIMIZING TRANSPORT
Our own transport fleet consists of more than 60 transport combinations which are operated as green as possible. All drivers drive according to the ‘code 95 driving’ guidelines. In addition our logistic hubs are instrumental in optimizing each ride. This optimization results in less fuel consumption and less emissions as a consequence.
6. ELECTRIC FLEET
Our total fleet consists of more than 26.000 machines. A large part of this is electric. When replacing and/or renewing the already young fleet, investments are made in electric machines. In addition, traditional diesel machines are electrified. Machines that are not yet electrically available are equipped with the innovative Stage V engines. A large number of machines are human powered instead of powered by a motor.
CO2 FOOTPRINT |
In addition to the ‘Erkend Duurzaam Plus Certificaat’, Collé also actively pursues a policy to reduce CO2 emissions within its business operations by continuously reducing its CO2 footprint. Our 2018 CO2 footprint was determined in accordance with the ‘Greenhouse Gas Protocol’ and provides insight into CO2 emissions. The top 3 emission categories are:
CO2-footprint 2019 | 2018 | 2019 |
Transport of goods | 41% | 39% |
Fuel consumption of rental machines | 37% | 43% |
Traffic from and to work | 6% | 6% |
Passenger transport passenger car | 4% | 5% |
Passenger transport service buses | 4% | 4% |
Hired transport | 3% | 1% |
Other energy carriers for purposes other than transport | 3% | 2% |
Sea shipping | 1% | 0% |
Miscellaneous | 1% | 0% |
In 2019, our CO2 emissions amounted to 41.28 grams per euro of turnover. This represents a 65% reduction year over year. For 2020 and beyond, reducing CO2 emissions even further is a key attribute of Collé Rental & Sales strategy.
RELEASE THE GREEN POWER |
The regulatory environment on emissions is becoming stricter. In more and more areas/applications it is no longer allowed to work with diesel powered machines because of emissions and noise pollution. It is our common goal to reduce emissions, we take a proactive role. In the past, tenders would often be awarded to the lowest price bidder. Nowadays sustainability is increasingly important. We expect 100% electric machines to become the industry standard. Our 100% electric machines offer the perfect solution for every project.
The electro-powered drive of our machines enables CO2-neutral work. This is beneficial for both the user and the environment. The low noise level makes electric machines ideal for working in areas of frequented environments such as schools, hospitals, offices and residential areas.
Advantages of 100% electric |
• The costs associated with maintenance and fuel are lower than for fossil fuel operated machines due to a reduced need to change filters and fluids.
• Fully electric machines do not release CO2 and air pollutants on the construction site.
• Electric machines come with lower noise level for both employees and the environment.
• By removing the need to check oil, fuel filters, coolants, etc. electric machines are easier and faster to inspect and have longer maintenance intervals.
• Electric machines are more versatile as they can be used both indoors and outdoors.
• Particularly in urban - or in quiet areas, the use of electric machines can provide an award advantage in the tender.
• Sustainable entrepreneurship contributes to the reduction of worldwide emissions of hazardous exhausts.
